The Art within your Art
Modern Arnis is a Filipino martial art that combines stick fighting with Karate, Judo and Jujitsu. Modern Arnis was developed by the late Grandmaster Remy A. Presas as a martial art for modern times based on traditional Filipino fighting systems.
I teach Modern Arnis in Sunderland at the GarageStudio and at Valley Women's Martial Arts in Easthampton - and in seminars and private lessons.
Grandmaster Presas introduced this art to the world during the early 70's and actively taught all over the world until his death in 2001. Master Presas always subscribed to the philosophy that Modern Arnis was "The Art within your Art". It does not replace what you already know it only adds a new level of understanding. ( For more information, please visit www.modernarnis.net )
I earned my black belt in Arnis from Professor Presas in 1999 and my 2nd degree from the Masters of Tapi-Tapi at the 2006 annual training camp in Michigan and my 3rd degree from Gura Janet Aalfs in 2011.
I continue to study with Gura Janet Aalfs (5th degree) at Valley Women's Martial Arts and with Master Brian Zawilinski and Master Gabriele Roloff of the International Modern Arnis Federation.
In classes, workshops and seminars we cover some basic Tapi-Tapi (Counter for Counter) drills, Sinawalis (Single and Double Stick Patterns), as well as Traps, Locks, Throws, and Disarms.
Please contact me if you are interested in arranging an arnis seminar - no previous experience is required, just a couple of sticks and the willingness to have some fun.
